Wyse Technology Extends Thin Computing Leadership with New Linux Solution

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced its newest and most powerful Linux-based thin-client, the V50. Combining a uniquely performance oriented form factor with the industry’s most full-featured Linux-based thin client software, the V50 joins the low cost S50™ as part of Wyse Technology’s Linux-based thin client product line which has experienced a 500% increase in year-over-year sales growth.
As part of today’s announcement, the V50 has been deployed by to handle the over 10,000 registrations at LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco. With attendance higher than ever this year, the conference organizers required a solution that was extremely scalable, and had the highest degree of reliability. Wyse Technology also announced a more than 1,900 seat deployment of the V50 by Swiss insurance company CSS (see separate release).
Powered by version 2.6 of the Linux kernel, the most recent and powerful available, the new model V50 provides a solid platform for accessing applications running on a server, plus locally executing Linux and Java applications. In addition, the V50 enables connectivity to text-based legacy applications via a rich terminal emulation suite and X11, access to web-based applications, and even to Windows applications via terminal services.

The V50 delivers superior security with support for automatic log-on and -off via multifactor security techniques with an integrated smartcard reader, or through add-on fingerprint or retina scanning peripherals, each of which is managed by, Wyse’s device management software. Other market-leading features of the V50 include: - "Free Seating": Enables system administrators to manage an individual’s desktop and applications using any device from anywhere on the network – all with complete data security.
- Powerful processing results in responsive performance: With a powerful 32-bit 1GHz microprocessor that is tightly coupled to a powerful 3D graphics processing unit, the V50 is one of the best performing Linux thin clients ever developed.
- Simple and straightforward connection selection: An integrated connection manager dashboard is provided that enables simple and fast server and application connection selection.
