Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in secure, managed thin clients, today launched two new additions to the Winterm™ thin-client family to support the growing demands for a secure enterprise. The Wyse Winterm 3235LE Windows terminal and Winterm 8235LE Windows Custom-Application Terminal feature enhanced support for smart cards and biometric readers, and help further increase security and drive down computing costs through the inclusion of Wyse's management software suite. Additionally, the Winterm 8235LE provides an upgrade path for those organizations that are looking to deploy Windows XP Embedded at a later date. "Security, manageability, affordability: these attributes cannot be overstated in a time when the demand on enterprises to protect information and reduce costs is growing exponentially," said Brad Rowland, director of product management for Wyse Technology. "Wyse prides itself on understanding the needs of its customers and responding with secure, managed thin-client solutions that not only meet their needs today, but that can evolve as their needs change over time."
The Winterm 8235LE, based on the Microsoft Windows NT® Embedded 4.0 operating system, is a thin client for organizations that need cost effective access to local Windows applications which cannot be server based, that desire a solid-state PC, or that need a fault tolerant thin client. Organizations can embed 32-bit Windows applications directly onto the Winterm 8235LE, such as Internet Explorer 5.0, multimedia applications and VPN clients. The Winterm 8235LE features four USB ports, and the hardware platform is "Windows XP Embedded Ready" - allowing customers to take advantage of Microsoft Corp.'s embedded operating systems both today and in the future. Product information is available at www.wyse.com/products/.
"In being selected as Microsoft's Embedded Partner of the Year in 2000, Wyse demonstrated its clear technological and industry leadership as well as the company's ability to rapidly bring new Microsoft-based thin-client solutions to market," said Keith White, senior director of the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft. "As the demand for secure, managed thin clients grows based on our forthcoming, Wyse is ensuring that its future Windows XP Embedded products meet the growing needs of the thin-client industry."
The new Winterm 3235LE, based on Microsoft CE, is a powerful terminal for those who need both the manageability of a centralized server environment and the power of Web applications access from the desktop. With increased session support, and a built-in thin-client version of the Internet Explorer browser, the Winterm 3235LE can be used alone as a browser terminal or with Windows® 2000 Server, Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition and Citrix MetaFrame™. This secure, managed terminal is ideal for a LAN environment to access a standard suite of office productivity applications, Web applications, email and the Internet, as well as to utilize network peripherals. The Winterm 3235LE has four USB ports, allowing users to support a greater number of peripherals with the device, including smart cards. Product information is available at www.wyse.com/products/.
Secure, Managed Thin Clients
Wyse's secure, managed thin clients help maximize IT budgets while minimizing the risk of unauthorized access to mission-critical information. Winterm thin clients deliver the key elements of security - authorization, authentication, integrity and confidentiality - through four levels of security that compliment the server software provided by Citrix. This includes a first-level user-name and password security shield built directly into the thin client, protecting the server from unauthorized access, support for smart cards as a form of two-factor authentication and support for biometric authentication devices (three-factor) that verify the thumbprint of the user when access to the system is desired, the use of Citrix's Secure ICA protocol, providing up to 128-bit end-to-end encryption of an ICA data-stream, and the elimination of local storage that can be hacked or fail, causing important communication like e-mail to be corrupted, modified or simply not to be received.
Wyse is bundling every Winterm thin-client model with the Wyse management software suite, which includes the simple WyseWorks Remote Administrator and comprehensive industry leading Rapport Workgroup Edition management software. With Wyse's Rapport and WyseWorks Remote Administrator, businesses are being armed with a comprehensive management tool capable of handling up to 200 users in an installation and with the purchase of an optional enterprise upgrade, up to tens of thousands of users across multiple branch office and management locations. Management tools are core to protecting a business' investment in desktop technologies, simplifying tasks that would otherwise place a significant strain on IT staffs while ensuring maximum benefit from thin-client installations.
