Wyse Technology Announces Availability of Winterm 1200LE Super-Thin ICA Appliance
Wyse's
"Blazer" Technology Powers New Ultra Thin Appliance
San Jose, CA –
02/01/2001 -
Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-appliance computing, today announced the availability of the Wyse Winterm™ 1200LE thin appliance, the industry's first dedicated appliance tuned specifically for Citrix® Systems' (NASDAQ: CTXS) ICA technology. The estimated street price of the "super-thin" appliance is $399 for single unit purchases, and $359 in quantities of 500 and above. The product is also available for lease through the WyseCapital™ program for as little as $9 per month.
The Winterm 1200LE leverages Wyse's super-thin "Blazer" technology and a dedicated ICA engine from Citrix to create a completely stateless appliance optimized for use in ICA environments. Unlike Windows terminals, the Winterm 1200LE requires no operating system, which means all configuration and session information is always server-based, requiring no local management. The device is ideal for those customers in a LAN/WAN environment that want to maximize their server-based applications and improve performance connectivity via ICA, and who utilize network and local peripherals, including printers. The Wyse Winterm 1200LE eliminates 100 percent of desktop management tasks while delivering the fastest ICA performance of any device in its class.
"The availability of the Winterm 1200LE thin appliance embedded with Blazer technology further demonstrates Wyse's commitment of meeting the ever-changing needs of CIOs, one of which is the need for improved ICA connectivity," said John Truitt, director of product management of Wyse Technology. "The Winterm 1200LE thin appliance represents the cutting edge, because it offers CIOs and IT administrators a stateless device optimized for maximum ICA performance. If all you need is ICA, this is the thin appliance for you."
Developing Thin Devices for Unique Environments
The concept of "thin" appliances is not new, but often misunderstood. A "thin" appliance is a device that is uniquely different than the all-purpose personal computer because it has far fewer components and no moving parts. The complexity has been removed, and specialized functionality and purpose has been provided. Wyse ignited the global explosion of "thin" appliances with the delivery of the first thin client, the Wyse Winterm™ device, in 1994. This led to the debut of other breakthrough "thin" devices, such as fixed-function consumer Internet appliances, web phones and enhanced PDAs. Wyse's vision is that "thin" appliances will some day touch virtually every aspect of our day-to-day lives, and emerge as part of the popular culture.
Industry Leaders Capitalize on Blazer Technology
Wyse's "Blazer" technology was created as a direct result of Wyse's vision to simplify the management of devices of all types. It allows for easier installation of thin-clients, zero maintenance, centralization of management and reduced IT costs for small to large sized companies seeking a server-based desktop device. Wyse recently announced a partnership with National Semiconductor and Citrix to expand the "Blazer" technology into a variety of existing and new media types such as wall mounted "data screens", display phones, wireless devices and similar products. Wyse's "Blazer" technology is also a key component to the company's vision of creating a software management infrastructure designed to help the global management, maintenance and deployment of all forms of "thin" appliances.
